BELONGING

BELONGING

Laughing, joyful voices
permeate the sacred stillness.

What a deep yearning
to be part of this sweet sound.

Approaching this cheerful duo,
wishing to be part of this friendship too.

Not aware of cues of disapproval,
hanging around because of wish to belong.

Soon expressions of disapproval
pervade the air.

Still hanging around
because of wish to belong.

Expressive disapprovals change more
into direct humiliations.

Now belonging becomes
painful part of continual humiliation.
